terrorist plot to simultaneously blow up several aircraft heading to the U.S. using explosives smuggled in carry-on luggage. Israel’s Security Cabinet votes to expand the military campaign against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. Israeli ground forces are expected to push up to the Litani River, 18 miles inside Lebanon, to try to eliminate Hezbollah rocket launchers before any U.N. cease-fire resolution is passed.
9August2006-Israel’s Security Cabinet on Wednesday approved a wider
ground offensive in south Lebanon that was expected to take 30 days as part of a new push to badly damage Hezbollah, a Cabinet minister said.
